Some Christmas

Some Christmas

Written by Sean Kelly

VERSE 1

Winter of ‘63

No fecking work for weeks

Sites have been closed since God-knows-when

Haven’t had the price of a pint since then

And she’s been staring at me

Ah, she thinks money grows on trees

I thought we’d said all there was to say

And now she says, “There’s one more on the way”

And “How the hell are we gonna pay

For gifts for the boys come Christmas Day?”

Some fella said you could make a few bob

Shovelling snow up by Shepherds Bush Green

So I picked up my shovel, the bus was just leaving

And Bill let me ride for free

CHORUS

And some fecking Christmas

Some fecking Christmas this turned out to be

VERSE 2

Bridget’s purse on the step

Looked like a gift from above

Packed full of pound notes and heavy with change

And I could’ve kept it all for myself

But she’d been wailing all night

Lord, how the childless can cry

All that “Jesus and Mary and Holy Saint Joseph”

I never could stand to see a woman cry

Gave it back but the look in her eye said

“You’ll get no reward Jim, so don’t even try”

Down at the Emperor, knocking ‘em back

Her and Paddy so feckless and free

So I borrowed a fiver from some soft old fella

Took it and went on a spree

CHORUS

And some fecking Christmas

Some fecking Christmas this turned out to be

BRIDGE

Cold, so cold, inside never felt so cold

And in spite of the skinful I’ve had

I feel the cold work its way into my bones

See, one drink’s too many and 20 is never enough

One drink’s too many and 50 is never enough

One drink’s too many, 10,000 is never enough
